Chapter 9

February had finally arrived, and things had really gotten out of hand with Ron and myself. On the other hand, Tay was doing well. She was still working and going to church trying to become a better individual. Natty and I had hardly spoken anymore. The last time we had seen each other was when we went and picked our dresses. She had asked me why I was still seeing him and once I assured her that I was going to let my affair with Ron go, she hadn’t spoken of it since. I think that giving the situation she had gone through with Mark, she was very disappointed to find out that I had been cheating on Jamaal. Jamaal and I had become more distant, and L.T.’s grades had been slipping in school. I was now at a place in my life where I never wanted to be, and I became so paranoid that I started to feel as if people were starting to suspect that I was on drugs. I was lost and confused and no longer in my right state of mind. I just wanted everything to be good again but I couldn’t let Ron go.

I was at work sitting at my desk and I hadn’t been feeling well. I thought that maybe the drugs were really taking a toll on me. I had been feeling this way for the past couple of weeks but wasn’t sure of what I should do. I couldn’t just go to my doctor and tell her that I was possibly not feeling too well because I had been on drugs. I jumped up out of my seat and grabbed the garbage can. After vomiting for about a few minutes, I tied the small bag up and headed to the bathroom to clean myself up. “

Are you alright?” the receptionist asked as I walked past her desk.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks for asking,” I replied. I went into the bathroom and started rinsing my mouth out. I looked in the mirror at myself and I really didn’t look too well. I would have to call my doctor and make an appointment but at no point would I blame the reason for my sickness on drugs. I picked up the small trash bad and took it outside to the dumpster. When I got back upstairs, I called and scheduled a doctor’s appointment for the following week. Then I locked my office door and laid my head down on my desk for a short nap. I just hoped that I wouldn’t be feeling like this on the weekend because I would be spending Saturday with Ron.

My office phone rang and I lifted my head off of my desk to answer. “Good morning, this is Ni’raisha speaking. How may I help you?”

L.T.’s school was calling. They needed me to come to the school right away. L.T. had gotten into some trouble at school with another student. He had punched the kid in the face and threatened to kill him.
